Forced to sleep on beaches in her board bag when competing, and despite battling crippling chronic rheumatoid arthritis, in 1993, Pauline Menczer achieved what none of her Bondi Beach male peers could and won the world surfing championship, following in the waves of Manly local, Pam Burridge. But she was denied the $25,000 prize money and didn’t receive recognition until recently – simply because she was a girl.
Surf Like A Woman is her autobiography.
Host: Tracey Croke
